About Paul[]
In Paul's visit to camp the episode "The Joker is Wild" the build-up of suspense, in Hawkeye, who, in competing with B.J. who's constantly reminded of the practical joking prowess of Trapper John McIntyre, whom he never met, over who could pull the best practical joke on one another, starts a "joke-out" competition between the medical staff and company clerk Klinger, which drives Hawkeye nuts - he treats everyone he encounters like they are part of B.J.'s elaborate prank, even Paul, who's a visiting surgeon from the 8063rd, and an old basic training unit mate of B.J., who thinks Hawkeye is completely insane!
It gets so bad that Hawkeye can't even sleep, spending the night surrounded by a fence made of barbed wire, golf club in hand, twitching at every sound.
Hawkeye, admitting when he's been bested, after going a full day paranoid of B.J.'s possible joke on him, and having slept just outside the mess tent in a bed surrounded by barbed wire, climbs atop the Mess Tent table, drops his drawers, and sings "You're The Tops" at full blast. The doctor from the 8063rd happens by, and walks away shaking his head, this time utterly convinced Hawkeye is crazy!
