About Kyong Ja and the "Exorcism"[]
Strange things begin to happen after Radar is ordered by Col. Potter to remove a Korean "spirit post" placed on camp by some of the locals, who believed that the camp was infected with "evil spirits"; an EVAC jeep carrying operated on soldiers crashed just minutes from camp, causing the soldiers, many of whom were seriously re-injured, to return to OR, the main light bulb in OR goes out, and the gauge on the oxygen goes on the fritz in the middle of an operation! Even more, it turns out, that Kyong Ja's grandfather (Phillip Ahn) purposely stepped in front of the jeep, in hopes that the driver would stop, as is the custom of those who do so who believe that in doing such, they can ward off the spirits.
Anyway, when Kyong Ja warns Hawkeye and Potter that they must honor her grandfather's wish - to have a local priestess perform an ancient exorcism ritual on camp before they operated on him, they balk at first, warning that he could die because of his injuries in the jeep crash. However, they grant the old man's wishes, and allow the priestess to perform the "exorcism"; the operation goes well, and everyone is happy, the man, his granddaughter Kyong Ja, as well as the camp, as all the bad luck stops! Before leaving, Kyong Ja gives Hawkeye some bells for decoration
