Lieutenant Carrie Donovan was a nurse who made a one time appearance in the Season 5 episode of M*A*S*H titled "Hanky Panky". The part of Lt. Donovan was played by Ann Sweeny.

B.J. notices that Carrie appears distracted and offers to help. It turns out that Carrie had received a "Dear Jane" letter from her husband. In Post Op, B.J. pesters her to talk about it which she finally agrees to. They meet in her tent after duty but unfortunately what starts as talk and advice ends up going too far. B.J., who feels guilty about it begins to treat Carrie rudely, in a way which she describes as "salty as hell, a bear with hangnails".
She requests for a transfer because she says she is making a mess of things in the unit but Potter turns her down. She had been doing good work, he says and he shrewdly observes that he thinks she can ride out and work through her people problems. She agrees to try.
Subsequent events show that Potter was right. While on duty in Post Op, Carrie spots a patient about to enter into shock and alerts B.J. in time, earning praise from B.J. for being "alert as hell". She then confronts a reluctant B.J. and persuades him to step outside for a talk. She insists that B.J. had done nothing wrong to offer comfort to a friend in despair. They might have gone too far but that was unplanned and only human. B.J. agrees but is still afraid of the future. So she sets clear boundaries for him. Being across the compound does not mean that he can just waltz into her tent when he likes, she says. "I needed you that night, and you were there ... It doesn't mean it's ever gonna happen again. I can work out my own problem. I don't expect you to be the answer to it." Her toughness and sense of control reassures B.J. and convinces him that they can indeed move on and remain just friends, closer than most, but still just friends.
