Monster M*A*S*H

Lieutenant Gage was a nurse character who made two appearances, in Season 4 "Dear Peggy" and in Season 5 "Out of Sight, Out of Mind". The part of Lieutenant Gage was played by Bobbie Mitchell. This was the last of nine different nurse characters she played. The appearance in "Out of Sight, Out of Mind" would also be the last of Bobbie Mitchell's 18 appearances on M*A*S*H.

About Nurse Gage[]

In "Dear Peggy", Hawkeye is trying to break a world record for most number of people in a vehicle by getting fifteen people into a jeep. Gage, played by Bobbie Mitchell in an uncredited appearance, is helping Hawkeye load people in when Hawkeye turns to her and says she is next. Gage says she doesn't want to and she's shy. "All those bodies..." she says. Hawkeye is persuasive: "Shy, shmy! Come on! For the glory of the 4077,". "Here comes Lieutenant Gage," he says and he proceeds to shove her horizontally and head first into the jeep with her feet sticking out, to everybody's cheers.

In "Out of Sight, Out of Mind", Gage is sharing a nurses tent with Bigelow, Able and Kellye when their stove breaks down. Bigelow and Able get Hawkeye to fix the stove but the stove explodes and temporarily blinds Hawkeye.

Later, when Frank drives Hawkeye out of Post Op, Able brings Hawkeye to the nurses tent and they welcome him warmly. However Gage wants him to come back later because she wants to get undressed for a shower. The other nurses assure her that Hawkeye can't see her so she starts undressing but Hawkeye gives a running commentary of her actions and hums a stripper tune so after a while she decides it is not going to work and starts to lead him out. This is however interrupted when Hawkeye says he can hear choppers approaching and they all rush to the O.R.

In "The Gun" (Season 4), during the outdoor triage scene, the P.A. system announces for Nurse Gage to report to x-ray. In "Deluge" (Season 4), Gage is not seen, but during a triage scene, Radar calls out to "Lieutenant Gage" and relays some of Hawkeye's instructions for patients inside an ambulance.

Throughout her appearances, Gage's first name is never mentioned. Even Hawkeye calls her "Gage" although it is obvious that they are familiar with each other.

Gage-dear peggy

Gage is too shy to get into the crowded jeep to help Hawkeye break a world record in "Dear Peggy". Hawkeye: "Shy, shmy! Come on! For the glory of the 4077!" A good view of her silver First Lieutenant's bar.
