Louise Burns, Frank Burns's wife, makes a cameo appearance in the Season 3 episode of M*A*S*H "There Is Nothing Like a Nurse" (episode #10).

The part of Louise Burns is played in the episode by Jeanne Schulherr, who also appears as an O.R. nurse in two more Season 3 three episodes; "O.R." (episode #5) and "Big Mac" (episode #21).

About Louise[]

In "There Is Nothing Like a Nurse", when all of the nurses are temporarily evacuated because of a possible enemy attack, it leaves all of the males in camp trying to compensate for the nurses' absence, performing their duties in and out of O.R. One of the things Hawkeye, Trapper, Henry, along with with Klinger and Radar, decide to do to kill spare time - or perhaps, to have a good laugh - is to sneak into Henry's office and watch what Hawkeye, perhaps semi-jokingly describes as "the dirtiest films of them all" - Frank's wedding home movie.

In the film, you can see the bespectacled, less-than-blushing (as well as less-than-enthused) bride, Louise, as she walks down the aisle (in someone's back yard) and the preacher performs the nuptials (as they both say "I do", Hawkeye jokingly says "Frank, don't do it!"). After Frank's bumbled attempt at cutting the cake, they get into their car (supposedly off to their honeymoon), with Louise ordering Frank to get in as she drives.

She apparently comes from a wealthy family; the house and stocks are in her name, and Frank hopes that he is mentioned in her father's will. In a scene often edited out of "Ceasefire", Frank tells Margaret that Louise is/was his nurse. In "Mail Call...Again", she wrote to Frank demanding a divorce when she found out about Frank's affair with Margaret, but he conned his way back into her good graces. Back in the States, Frank had an ongoing affair with his receptionist ("The Novocaine Mutiny"); it is unknown if Louise is aware of this. Likewise, he had an affair with his housekeeper ("Soldier Of The Month"), and also tried to have affairs with two MASH Nurses ("Margaret's Engagement" and "Der Tag"). It is also unknown if Frank ever recovered from his mental breakdown or if the Burns' ever divorced after the war.
