The hospital building is the core of the MASH 4077th camp where most of the medical procedures take place. It comprises a T-shaped building of corrugated metal with a metal roof marked with red crosses.
Within the hospital building are most of the medical facilities of the MASH. The exact location of some of these places is a matter of some debate partly because the shape of the building at the Fox ranch location (used for location wide angle filming) differs slightly from that at sound stage 9 (which was used for night scenes and limited outdoors, and most indoor scenes).
The hospital building comprises, at least, the following facilities:
- Pre-Op Ward - the entrance is located at the end of the western arm of the "T", indicated by 1a in the map below. It's location has been confirmed in mulitple scenes.
- Operating room - a door from the pre-op ward leads directly to the operating room so this location has to be located in the western arm of the "T".
- Post-Op Ward - this is located in the north-south arm of the "T", perpendicular to the Pre-Op and Operating room. One entrance is at 1b in the map below. There is another entrance from the commander's officer. This location has been confirmed in multiple scenes.
