About MSGT Tarola[]
When Hawkeye and Trapper, who, like the whole camp, were tired of 11 straight days of "fish and liver" being served in the mess tent, decided to find and then call and place an order of barbecued spareribs and sauce form a place called "Adam's Ribs", a restaurant he enjoyed in Chicago located near the Dearborn Street station, where Henry himself said spent āhalf his lifeā there and (supposedly) where he met his wife Lorraine, they run into a snag, as the package of ribs and large bottle of BBQ sauce, that they made sure was labeled as "medical supplies", both get hung up in channels at a supply depot in Ouijongbu.
When Hawkeye and Trapper quickly travel there, they encounter a Major Pfiefer (Basil Hoffman) who won't track down their package, but sends them to Sergeant Tarola, who refuses to release the package because no requisition orders were cut.
The captains resort to threatening to shut down Tarola's depot under the guise of unsanitary conditions. Fearing reassignment, Tarola caves in, asking them "What's in the package?"
When Hawkeye admits they are ribs from Chicago, Tarola, who hails from nearby Joliet, immediately guesses that the ribs and sauce are from "Adam's Ribs", as he says to them, "I'd walk to Chicago on my knees in the snow for a takeout order!"
Tarola and the surgeons cut a deal - Tarola will deliver the package, but takes 12 pounds and a pint and a half of sauce for himself as his cut, but is astonished Hawkeye forgot the coleslaw, as Tarola says to Hawkeye and Trapper, "You sent all the way to Chicago, and no coleslaw?" as Hawkeye answers to him, "Forgive us, we're draftees!"
