To the northeast of the hospital building and the commander's tent, just beyond the camp perimeter and running downslope is an area of scrubland which is frequently used by camp personnel as a recreational area. The zone is bounded to the east by Rosie's Bar which stands one of the main access roads to the MASH. To the west there is another dirt road which runs past the back of the hospital building. Part of this scrubland has a minefield which features prominently in some episodes. Although it is not referred to as a picnic ground by the 4077th personnel, we shall call it that for convenience since it is often used for this purpose. (See this map here).
- In 5 O'Clock Charlie (Season 2), an ammo dump has been set up in this area. From the footage it appears to be near the minefield. The North Korean pilot 5 O'Clock Charlie visits this dump daily at the same time, always trying to drop a bomb on it. The MASH personnel watch the event upslope from their position just outside the hospital building and take bets on the distance of Charlie's bomb from the dump.
- In Kim (Season 2), Margaret and Frank have a picnic in the picnic ground. They were supposed to look after the Korean boy Kim but they were distracted and allowed the boy to stray into the minefield. He and Trapper (who ran in to save him) were picked up by a helicopter and brought to the dirt track behind the hospital building.

- In Bulletin Board (Season 3), many of the food stalls and games events of the MASH cookout are held in the picnic ground.
- In The Price (Season 7), at the beginning of the episode, Potter can be seen riding Sophie along the dirt track into the camp.

In this scene from 5 O'Clock Charlie (Season 2), the ammo dump is in the middle distance slightly to the right of center of the picture and to the left of the umbrella. Notice the unusually shaped bush on the mountain slope to the left of the picture. Compare this with the bush as seen in the previous picture. This suggests that the ammo dump is located not far from the minefield.
In this scene from Kim (Season 2), Trapper and Kim have been rescued from the minefield by a helicopter and they are being dropped off on the dirt road which runs behind the hospital building towards the picnic ground. The camera is standing with its back to the minefield and picnic ground.
