About Nurse Moritz
Going by the dialogue in the episode, Hawkeye tells Frank that Sanchez comes from Costa Rica. As Costa Rica did not send military or medical units to the Korean War, Sanchez was probably a Red Cross or other civilian nursing volunteer, and thus her rank is not known. We only ever see her in her surgical gown so no insignia can be discerned. Throughout the episode, Sanchez speaks mainly Spanish.
During the episode, Sanchez is assigned to assist Hawkeye in the O.R. while the MASH comes under friendly artillery fire. She is unaccustomed to the sound of gunfire and loses her cool, screaming with every explosion. At one stage, Margaret has to slap her to snap her out of her panic. She responds by slapping Margaret in return, much to Margaret's surprise.
Later, Hawkeye removes a grenade from a booby-trapped casualty and throws it out of the O.R. window. The nearness of the explosion causes Sanchez to panic. She into Hawkeye's arms, exclaiming that she doesn't want to die, that she is too young and so on. Hawkeye takes her out of the O.R. to calm her, telling her "no more booby". She asks if Hawkeye is afraid. Hawkeye shows her his trembling arm. "You are afraid," she says, feeling slightly more reassured.
By the end of the episode, Sanchez has regained her composure and found some new inner strength. When she and Hawkeye work on another patient and Hawkeye realizes that the patient has died, he cautiously advises Sanchez to "take it easy". But Sanchez doesn't lose it. She confidently moves to call Klinger to bring in the next patient.
