Private Garvin was a U.S. army private who made a single appearance in the Season 5 episode of the CBS-TV series M*A*S*H titled "Post Op". The part of Garvin was played by Gary Springer.
About Garvin[]
Garvin is a soldier who has been injured by a grenade blast. Near the end of the episode, Potter visits him to tell him he was lucky as all he had was a concussion. On hearing that Garvin is from the Near North Side of Chicago, Potter starts telling him how he used to "hit Chicago like a tornado" when he was stationed at Camp Grant. However Potter gets all his details wrong and keeps getting corrected by Garvin. At the end, Potter gives up and says they will talk about Detroit the next day because Garvin has never been to Detroit!
Notes about Chicago[]
- Camp Grant was in Illinois and the nearest large city would have been Chicago
- Garvin is right that State and Deerborn never meet as they are parallel.
- Potter says he used to hop off the "L" (the elevated transit system) at Diversey to watch the White Sox at Comiskey Park. Garvin corrects him that he probably meant the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Actually Diversey is not the nearest station for Wrigley Field. But it is even further to Comiskey Park.
- Garvin is right - there is a bank at the corner of Broadway and Lawrence.
