About Sergeant Gribble[]
When the 4077th desperately needs a blood donor for the rare AB-negative blood type for Private Harker, Sergeant Gribble, a bomb-disposal specialist from a nearby unit, is the only one available. Unfortunately he is out on R&R and doesn't arrive until late in the night and completely "bombed".
After attempting to sober him up with 4 cups of coffee, Klinger, Hawkeye and B.J. try to get him into a bed for the blood transfusion. Gribble still thinks he is there to defuse a bomb, until he sees the needle, which causes him to panic. He tries to plead with the doctors, saying that he is terrified of needles and passes out every time he sees one. But the doctors are persistent and try to insert the needle.
Gribble flees the ward in terror and takes refuge in Margaret's tent screaming "They're trying to kill me!" The doctors catch up with him and he tries to escape again but passes out when he sees Hawkeye's needle. Gribble is bundled back to the ward and placed on a bed next to Harker. The transfusion goes well and Harker's condition improves. He wakes up and B.J. tells him he will be all right. Gribble also wakes up but passes out again when he sees the needle attached to him.
Some time later, Gribble comes into the Swamp to say goodbye to Potter and the Swampmates. He helps himself to some of the Swamp's martinis and then launches into a stream of bomb-disposal stories. Hawkeye isn't keen to listen and so produces a needle which causes Gribble to beat a hasty retreat out of the tent.
