About Sergeant Maxwell[]
Sergeant Maxwell, a jovial military police sergeant comes to the 4077th MASH to visit his buddy, Corporal Boone. He finds Boone well except that a "change day" is approaching and Boone needs him to help change his $400 of crap game winnings from the old scrip to new, which Maxwell happily agrees to do. Maxwell then thanks Hawkeye and B.J. to offers to return the favor some time.
Meanwhile, Hawkeye and B.J. learn of Winchester's scheme to make a big profit from the scrip change by taking advantage of the local Korean villagers, buying up their old scrip for US dollars at 10 cents to a dollar and then exchanging the old scrip for new, keeping the profits. Determined to teach Winchester a lesson, Hawkeye and B.J. approach Maxwell and ask him to "play cops and robbers". Maxwell agrees to help.
As the time for the scrip change approaches, Winchester hurries back from the Korean village with his bag of old scrip in his jeep. A few miles outside the camp he is stopped by Maxwell, who has set up a road block. The road has been closed due to mines, he says. He tells Winchester he needs to walk back to the MASH, or, if he wishes to be in time for the scrip change (the camp is locked down for the event), then he must run. Winchester gets to the camp too late and loses most of his money!
