About Soony[]

After winning a table-tennis match for the 4077th MASH against their sister unit, the 8063rd, hospital orderly Cho Lin becomes a sort of local hero to the camp personnel. He brings Soony to the Swamp and introduces her to the Swamp mates. Hawkeye and B.J. are delighted to hear that Cho Lin and Soony are to be married soon and suggest that they could get married at the 4077th since they have no other home (Soony's village had been flattened by enemy artillery). Hawkeye and B.J. lend Cho Lin some money to buy a wedding ring from Seoul while Soony applies for a job as a cleaner at the 4077th - for which she has to go through a confusing interview with Frank Burns.

Days pass and Cho Lin does not return. Soony becomes upset and thinks that perhaps he will not come back after all. Hawkeye tries to reassure her but then an ambulance rolls into the MASH with Cho Lin on board. While in Seoul, he had been forcibly drafted into the South Korean Army, given a few hours training, sent into battle and then wounded! Hawkeye treats Cho Lin and soon the preparations for the wedding are in full swing.

Predictably, Frank disrupts the plans by insisting that, with his treatment completed, Cho Lin should be sent to the 121st Evac hospital as per proper procedure. He complains to Potter about the delay Hawkeye and B.J. are creating and threatens to report it to authority. But Hawkeye persuades Potter to stretch the rules on the grounds that Soony was "family" - Potter would be giving away the bride. This gets Potter all excited and he agrees to the delay, allowing the couple to be married in traditional Korean fashion.

Nice shot of Soony in traditional Korean wedding costume - which had been prepared by Margaret using Radar as a model!
