About Stanley[]
On Trapper John, M.D. Trapper John McIntyre, whom, by 1979, is now the Chief of Surgery at San Francisco Memorial Hospital in California, often winds up in clashes with Stanley, who serves as sort of an antagonist not much unlike Major Frank Burns did on the M*A*S*H series, as he, a pompous, but nonetheless still highly skilled and capable doctor (whose father was the head of the hospital board of directors) often tries to take credit for whatever successful surguries and medical advances the surgical staff is responsible for.
Often at odds with the other surgeons, he often tries to report Trapper, Gonzo Gates and/or the other surgeons to Arnold Slocum, who's the hospital administrator for violating hospital procedures, only for his attempts to be shot down, as it also often seems that Stanley has to depend on Trapper and others on the medical staff and Slocum to get him out of proverbial "hot water", predicaments which he himself often finds himself in because of his schemes, in which often when his career or life is threatened. Stanley later marries a dentist named E.J. (played by Marcia Rodd).
